Cancer: Oklahoma Residents.
County: The county of residence at the time of the cancer diagnosis (Map of Oklahoma Counties)
Time Span : The years during which the event occurred (cancer date)
Race:
For Cancer Incidence: All Race/Ethnic specific rates are calculated using population estimates from the National Center for Health Statistics with bridged racial categories and released by the National Cancer Institutes SEER program. Beginning with the 2021 data, primary sites were assigned using the Site Recode ICD-O-3/WHO 2008 Definition (including the use of behavior codes) to align with CDC/NPCR and SEER reporting standards.
For Cancer Mortality: The National Center for Health Statistics has discontinued the postcensal bridged-race population estimates (used for calculating rates) with the release of the Vintage 2020 estimates. Starting with 2021 birth and death statistics and cancer and injury mortality, OK2SHARE will display the racial categories used by the U.S. Census Bureau - White, Black, American Indian, Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander, and Two or more races. Hispanic Origin did not change. There will also be 2010 to 2020 trends using the new race categories along with the existing bridged race categories.

SEER Site Groups for Primary Site and Mortality Data (table definition links):

SEER Site Groups for Primary Site Based on ICD-O-3

SEER Site Groups for Mortality Data Based on ICD-10

Calculations:

Cancer Incidence Rate = 100,000 x Number of Resident with Cancer  /  Resident Population

Age Adjusted Rates:
            US 2000 Standard Population =
Age Specific Mortality Rate  x Population within that age group / US 2000 Population

***when calculating the rate for combined years the population is the sum of the populations for the specified time span***
