“Approach to Arthritis a New Look at an Old Problem”

presented by the American Medical Women’s Association in partnership with the Oklahoma Arthritis Network at the Oklahoma City Zoo. This program will provide a practical, everyday approach for primary care providers to utilize in managing patients affected by arthritis with a special focus on women.  Current trends and treatment of arthritis will also be discussed. ·         May is National Arthritis Month

Arthritis Foundation Debuting Arthritis Screening Tool

In May, the Arthritis Foundation will be launching its newly developed “Assess Your Joint Health” screening tool.  This 12-question tool will enable individuals to determine if they are at risk or experiencing symptoms of arthritis.  One risks or symptoms are identified, the Arthritis Foundation will encourage individuals to take preventive measures to lower risks or manage existing symptoms.

 

      The Oklahoma State Department of Health and the Oklahoma Arthritis Network will be working closely with the Arthritis Foundation to promote the use of this tool in May and thereafter.

 

      Any of you planning arthritis related events in the month of May, please contact the OAN and the Arthritis Foundation so we may keep track of those activities taking place and offer you more resources that could enhance your events.

 

·        Grant Received by Arthritis Foundation

             - Stephanie LaFevers, Eastern Oklahoma Chapter

 

      Funding was not awarded to either Oklahoma Chapter for this endeavor. Both chapters are hopeful that they will receive funding from a subsequential grant submitted that will promote partnerships.

 

      Oklahoma State Department of Health and the Arthritis Foundation will work together to provide training workshops to county health departments and other interested community partners will funds not used in the OSDH Arthritis Prevention and Education Program’s first year budget.  We will give OAN further details as they are confirmed.

 

·                     New Disability Advocacy Group Formed To Address Legislative Issues
