Race:
Beginning with 1990, all Race/Ethnic specific rates are calculated using population estimates from the National Center for Health Statistics with bridged race categories.

The National Center for Health Statistics has discontinued the postcensal bridged-race population estimates (used for calculating rates) with the release of the Vintage 2020 estimates. Starting with 2021 death statistics, OK2SHARE will display the racial categories used by the U.S. Census Bureau - White, Black, American Indian, Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander, and Two or more races. Hispanic Origin did not change. There will also be 2010 to 2020 trends using the new race categories along with the existing bridged race categories.

Calculations:

Mortality Rate (Death Rate) = 100,000 x Number of Resident Deaths  /  Resident Population
Age Specific Mortality Rate = 100,000 x Number of Resident Deaths in that age group  /  Population within that age group
Infant Mortality Rate = 1,000 x Number of Resident Infant Deaths  /     Number of Resident Live Births

Age Adjusted Rates:
    Oklahoma 2000 Standard Population =
Age Specific Mortality Rate  x  Population within that age group /       OK 2000 Population
     US 2000 Standard Population =
Age Specific Mortality Rate  x  Population within that age group /      US 2000 Population
***when calculating the rate for combined years the population is the sum of the populations for the specified time span***
