Salary:

$2416.00 - 2,584.00 Bi-weekly (based on education and experience)

 

Description:

This position will manage the Tobacco component of the Center for the Advancement of Wellness and serve as the Executive Director of the Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation Advisory Committee. This position will serve as the leader and subject matter expert on tobacco initiatives in an integrated Wellness program focused on behavior change as a primary prevention measure to reduce related chronic diseases statewide. This position will also consult with OSDH staff as well as the Communities of Excellence partners on evidence-based practices in tobacco use prevention and control.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

·         Provide training, technical assistance, and consultation to communities across the state to help support local coalitions to reduce tobacco use;

·         In coordination with the Office of the Tribal Liaison, consult with OSDH staff and tribal partners in identifying and developing culturally-appropriate approaches to reduce tobacco use in this population;

·         Position will provide supervision to the tobacco program managers and assure that all program goals and components of the CDC grant program are implemented in accordance with the grant application;

·         Responsible for timely and adequate completion of the CDC grant, and any other tobacco or wellness related grant assigned;

·         Responsible for ensuring adherence to TSET contract obligations and obligations to other community partnerships or contractors;

·         Provides expert consultation and guidance on effective, evidence based and comprehensive tobacco prevention and control interventions;

·         Coordinates program activities within the Center, with other agency partners, through Community Development Services, county health departments and other related and partners; Serve in an advisory capacity on The Oklahoma Alliance on Health or Tobacco Executive Committee;

·         Provide information requested by state and local policy makers;

·         Assure accuracy when relating information to media outlets;

·         Ensure adequate and appropriate evaluation of tobacco initiatives;

·         Establish and maintain vital relationships with other agency officials; and

·         Advise management on matters concerning agency's public image.

 

Education and Work Experience:

Requirements include either a master's degree in public health; public administration; or a social science related field; or, a bachelor's degree in health education, health promotions, community health, health behavior, nursing, or related field and three years of experience in community or public health. Preference may be given to applicants with previous experience in tobacco prevention and/or chronic disease.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Requirements include knowledge of planning, community-based programs, and public health principles; evidence-based practices related to tobacco use and chronic disease prevention. Candidates must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to exercise creativity and good judgment in problem solving, and the ability to utilize personal computers; Candidates should also possess strong organizational skills as well as oral and written communication skills in preparing and presenting technical and non-technical information.

 

Other:

Position requires possible response to public health emergencies including, but not limited to, natural disasters, disease outbreaks, or catastrophic events. The Oklahoma State Department of Health is tobacco free. Employees are prohibited from using tobacco products throughout all indoor and outdoor areas of premises under the control of the Oklahoma State Department of Health, in all vehicles on those premises, and in state vehicles in use for OSDH business anywhere.
